Residence Hall Application

Contract and Application 2024-2025

To live in University Housing, all students must sign a contract by completing our online housing application.

New applicants (students who have not completed a residence hall contract previously) will be asked to pay a non-refundable $35.00 fee. This fee covers the cost of a background check and application processing for each applicant. This is a one-time fee, so returning students who have previously lived in the residence hall do not have to pay this fee again.

All students must make a $250 prepayment. Failure to make the prepayment by the deadlines below may result in loss of room and/or contract.  Prepayments will be released to the student’s bill as a credit at the end of summer/beginning of fall term. All students must make the $250 prepayment before the roommate/room selection portion is accessible in the housing portal.

The residence hall $250 pre-payment amount is released on two dates:

  • Initial pre-payment release: Occurs in the middle of May, following the residence hall cancellation deadline.  The initial release includes any students who have made the pre-payment but cancelled their residence hall contract prior to the May 10 cancel deadline.  Regardless of whether students in this group are still registered YSU students, pre-payments will be released to student accounts in the form of a credit.  If there is a balance on the student’s account, the release will deduct from the balance.  If the student account does not have a balance, the credit will ultimately be released to the student in the form of a refund check from the University OR a direct deposit (if the student had set this up previously).  *Please note that pre-payments cannot be released directly back to the original method of payment.
  • Second pre-payment release: will occur in the middle of August.  On this date, pre-payments are released to all students who have residence hall contracts and who had also made the pre-payment.  
    • For students with residence hall contracts, this action will trigger a $250 credit to their student account and will deduct from the total balance owed, or result in a refund
    • For students who have cancelled their residence hall contract after the May 10 cancel deadline, this credit will zero out the $250 cancel fee that they were assessed for cancellation of their residence hall contract beyond the May 10 deadline
    • Students who are not enrolled at YSU will not receive the cancellation fee, so the release of the pre-payment will trigger a credit to their student account and ultimately deduct from any balance owed, or result in a refund

Communication from our office is sent to student’s YSU email.  Please be sure to have your YSU email account set up and check it daily.

NEW CONTRACTS/APPLICANTS

If you are a new applicant, you will need your YSU email and password to login to the application/contract portal. Please be sure to have this on-hand before you are ready to start the application. If you need assistance with your YSU email/password please reach out to IT at 330.941.1595.
 
Depending on your application date, you will have the opportunity to complete a roommate profile as part of your application. Roommate profiles will be visible to other new applicants, and you can utilize the portal to communicate with one another to find a roommate match. Once you’ve found a potential roommate, the group leader will then be able to select the room for the group.

Applicants must have a roommate group to fill a room.  If you do not have a roommate, you will be assigned a room and roommate over the summer.  Any partially filled rooms, may be assigned a roommate OR moved to a room where there is another vacancy.

If you apply after May 10th, you will be assigned a room/roommate based on the information you provided in your application.  No room or roommate will be assigned until you make the $250 prepayment*.

*Please note: The prepayment does not guarantee a specific room/roommate.  As decisions are made over the summer (by both students and the institution) it may be necessary to move students into new room and/or with new roommates.  All communication about needed changes will occur to students via the student’s YSU email.

RETURNING RESIDENTS

If you are a returning resident who has lived with us previously, you will have the opportunity to select your room and set up roommate groups. Applicants must be able to fill the room in order to select a room.  If you do not have a roommate, you will be assigned a room and roommate over the summer.  Any partially filled rooms, may be assigned a roommate OR moved to a room where there is another vacancy.

CANCELLATION FEES

  • Students who cancel their fall residence hall application before May 10 OR who cancel their spring-only residence hall application before December 13 | Cancellation Fee
    Amount: $0.00
  • Students who cancel their fall residence hall application after May 10 and before move-in OR who cancel their spring-only residence hall application after December 13 and before January move-in day | Cancellation Fee Amount: $250.00

Students who wish cancel their residence hall application after they have moved in must complete the Request to Terminate Contract Form and will be subject to fees as described on that request form.
